Optiboot bootloader

Feb 04, 2013 · I’d like the LED to flash when the bootloader starts and when Moteino is programmed from the Arduino IDE. So I rebuilt Optiboot for this purpose and all future orders for Moteinos will come with this tweaked Optiboot that will make use of the onboard LED when you reprogram it.

Optiboot is small enough to fit into the 512-byte minimum boot size of a mega328, but too big for the 256-byte minimum bootsize of a mega168. Another design goal was for the bootloader to wait indefinitely, to avoid having to juggle the timing of pressing the reset button and uploading code to flash.
- optiboot.c file contains the main program flow of bootloader (i.e. receiving hex serially and writing it to program memory). Other files (boot.h, pin_defs.h, stk500.h) are included in optiboot.c file.

- It seems like hex is saying the rest of the flash should be empty but it isnt since your bootloader sits in the end. I'm sorry but I guess i couldnt help you much. Why dont you use optiboot? It has a footprint as small as 512W as far as I knwo and its fully integrated to Arduino or did you mean by custom bootloader that you modiefied optiboot?
